Reinstatement of Collapsed Garden

Client

City and County of Swansea

Location

Cockett, Swansea

Value

£160,000

Failure of a soil slope atop an old quarry led to the loss of sections of garden and patio attached to a residential property. The client required the garden to be restored to pre-collapse dimensions. The quarry face was to be stabilised to prevent any further collapse.

Our solution involved:

  • Detailed design.
  • Soil Nailing and Erosion Protection: Installation of 165 Dywidag soil nails and rock bolts using our excavator mounted TEI Hem550 drilling mast. Fixing of 350 sq. metres of Maccafferi rock netting and erosion control matting.
  • Cantilevered Balcony: Installation of 110mm diameter Grundomat piles creating a fulcrum for 6 steel cantilever beams with mass concrete counterweight. Creating balcony floor using block and beam with reinforced concrete overslab.
  • Underpinning: Excavation beneath outbuilding and creation of anchored reinforced concrete foundation.
  • Landscaping: Natural stone paving with hidden drainage, structural balustrade and planters.
